SYNC Technologies, Inc. was founded in 1988 by the Stallings family as a Detroit-based, minority-owned small business in the information technology field. The family has a long history of involvement in the IT industry. Arthur Beard, a Stallings family uncle, was one of the first Detroit-based African-American entrepreneurs in the field of data processing during the 1960s. His example provided much of the inspiration for the later formation of SYNC.

The company began as an extension of work done by co-founder Cliff Stallings in the mid-1980s for the City of Detroit Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD) on an industrial waste database management system. Partners in this original work included consultants from Wayne State University, Urban Sciences Corporation and other local organizations.

Starting out as a part-time venture for the family, the company has evolved into a full-time, dynamic business employing multi-talented individuals in all areas of information technology. SYNC has grown rapidly and now offers a wide range of professional services to clients in government, education, business and the non-profit sector.

SYNC has been guided by three central principles throughout its history:
  • Top quality professional work
  • Meeting or exceeding customer expectations
  • Volunteer service to the community
